Stage 1 Redevelopment 
Stage 1 of the Master Plan is a $52 million development that was completed mid 2020. The building will be officially named, “Mercy Centre,” recognising the Mercy heritage. 

• A dedicated new entry to the hospital;
• New medical imaging facilities;
• A new day surgery unit; and
• An additional four digital operating theatres in the existing Lothair Street wing.

The new ‘Mercy Centre’ building was completed in February 2020 and facilities opened to the public on 24 March 2020. The refurbishment of the existing Lothair building was completed in September 2020.

Approximately 200 local jobs were created from the project, with 92 percent of sub-contracts awarded to small and medium enterprises employing local workers.

The Stage 1 redevelopment is part of a 10-year master plan by Mater Health Services to enhance health care in the North Queensland region.
